In a crucial move for ongoing rehabilitation, both carriageways of the Third Mainland Bridge are set to close to traffic from noon on Wednesday to noon on Thursday.
This decision was disclosed by the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, in a statement provided to journalists on Monday.
The temporary closure is part of the concerted efforts to facilitate the extensive repair works on the bridge. Mrs. Kesha emphasized that this specific 24-hour period is crucial for the contractor to execute a significant phase of the rehabilitation project.
“During this critical 24-hour period, the bridge will not be accessible to traffic. We urge all road users to explore alternative routes and cooperate with deployed traffic management officials to ensure smooth movements and minimize inconvenience,” Kesha stated.
Acknowledging the public’s patience and understanding, she expressed regret for any inconveniences caused by the closure.
The Lagos State Government, aligning with this decision, issued a notification of the planned total closure. Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation, emphasized that road users should utilize alternative routes provided during this period.
“We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation. Our traffic management officials will be on hand to ensure efficient traffic flow and minimize any disruptions,” Osiyemi assured.
As the Third Mainland Bridge takes a temporary pause in its bustling activity, let’s collectively navigate this brief inconvenience for the long-term benefit of a structurally sound and safe transportation artery.
