The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Chioma Okoli, who has been incarcerated since 2023 for allegedly posting a review of a tomato paste.
In a ruling issued on Friday, May 31, 2024, Justice Peter Lifu granted Okoli bail set at N5 million with two sureties in the same amount.
Justice Lifu stipulated that one surety must be her husband or a blood relative with verifiable income who resides within the court’s jurisdiction.
Additionally, the sureties are required to deposit their passport photographs.
Okoli herself must surrender her international passport and is prohibited from leaving the country without the court’s permission.
The judge emphasized that the charges against Okoli are bailable and scheduled the next hearing for June 13.
This decision comes shortly after her lawyer revealed that Okoli had lost her pregnancy due to the stress caused by the ongoing litigation over the past few months.
