On Monday morning, workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) shut the gates of the FCTA Secretariat located at No. 1 Kapital Road, Area 11, Garki, Abuja.
This action was in compliance with the ongoing strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
By 8 a.m., workers had locked the gates and blocked them with vehicles, effectively sealing off access to the premises.
The FCTA Secretariat houses key offices, including those of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari.
The closure of the FCTA Secretariat is a significant move within the broader context of the nationwide strike, reflecting the widespread participation and support for the labour action. The strike itself is rooted in demands for a new national minimum wage and the reversal of the recent hike in electricity tariffs, issues that have galvanized workers across various sectors to take a stand.
