Manchester United have confirmed that Erik ten Hag will continue as manager following a comprehensive end-of-season review, despite a challenging Premier League campaign.
The Dutch manager’s position was under scrutiny after a disappointing league performance, but the season ended positively with an FA Cup victory against Manchester City.
The decision to retain Ten Hag was made after a thorough evaluation by the club’s new co-owners, INEOS, led by Sir Dave Brailsford. According to a source from ESPN, the review concluded with a “clear conclusion” to keep Ten Hag in charge.
Constructive discussions about the review’s findings have also initiated talks regarding a contract extension for Ten Hag, whose current deal expires in 2025.
Ten Hag, 54, initially made a strong impression at Old Trafford, finishing third in the Premier League and winning the Carabao Cup in his first season.
However, his second season saw the team drop to eighth place, their lowest-ever Premier League finish, and exit the Champions League at the group stage.
Despite these setbacks, the review determined that Ten Hag should remain as manager. Negotiations are now underway to potentially extend his contract by an additional 12 months.
