Renowned Nollywood actor Seun Jimoh has voiced sharp criticism against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing the agency of unfairly singling out celebrities in its crackdown on Naira abuse.
Jimoh’s remarks come in the wake of reports indicating the impending arraignment of popular socialite Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, for alleged Naira abuse, shortly after crossdresser Bobrisky was incarcerated for a similar offense.
Expressing his discontent, Jimoh decried what he perceives as a “scapegoating” tactic employed by the EFCC, asserting that it unjustly targets individuals who represent only a fraction of the populace engaged in similar behavior.
He highlighted the prevalence of video evidence showcasing widespread Naira abuse across various platforms on the internet, questioning the selective enforcement of the law against celebrities.
In a candid statement posted on his Instagram page, Jimoh raised poignant questions regarding the fairness and efficacy of the EFCC‘s approach.
He challenged the agency’s rationale for prioritizing high-profile figures over the countless others implicated in similar acts, emphasizing that celebrities are also citizens deserving of equitable treatment.
Jimoh further criticized the perceived disregard for the mental well-being of Nigerian citizens inherent in the “scapegoat approach” to cultural reforms.
His remarks underscore a broader concern regarding the ethical implications and societal impact of law enforcement strategies that disproportionately target specific segments of the population.
