American former professional football player Vontae Davis, who enjoyed a 10-season career before retiring in 2018, was discovered deceased in a Florida residence. WSVN reported that authorities found a male body at a property owned by Davis’ grandmother on Monday, April 1, in Southwest Ranches, Florida, located 30 miles north of Miami.
Law enforcement stated that no foul play was suspected, and the investigation remains ongoing. Chester Frazier, Davis’ former college football coach, expressed his condolences, pledging prayers for Vontae’s family.
Davis initiated his football journey at Dunbar High School in Washington D.C., U.S.A., where he excelled and earned recognition as the No. 33 cornerback recruit nationwide.
Standing at 5 feet 11 inches tall, he opted for the Fighting Illini over numerous colleges, amassing 139 solo tackles and seven interceptions over three seasons.
Selected as the 25th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Davis contributed to teams such as the Dolphins, Colts, and Bills throughout his career.
As a two-time Pro Bowler, he recorded impressive statistics, including 396 tackles, 22 interceptions, and two sacks. Davis made headlines when he abruptly retired during a Bills game in 2018.
