A chef formerly employed by Lagos State’s ex-governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, named Victor Abayomi, has been placed in prison custody over allegations of stealing valuables worth millions of naira from the former governor’s Ikoyi residence.
Abayomi was brought before the Yaba Magistrate court by the State Security Service (SSS) on two counts related to conspiracy and theft. The prosecuting counsel for the SSS, Joshua Babalola, informed the court during the arraignment that Abayomi, along with others still at large, conspired and committed the offenses at the Ikoyi residence of the former governor.
Babalola disclosed that the defendant fled to Old Garage, Molorundo Local Government Area, Osun State, where he was apprehended on March 7, 2024. The prosecutor outlined that the charges contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
In her ruling, the Magistrate ordered Abayomi’s remand at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for 30 days, adjourning the case until April 8, 2024, for further investigation and presentation of facts.
