The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended Eddiong Anthony Matthew, an ex-convict, who was found dressed in military camouflage.
Matthew, a resident of Ikot Ekong Village in Mkpat Enin LGA, was arrested during a crime prevention patrol on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.
ASP Timfon John, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrest in a statement released in Uyo on Thursday. Preliminary investigations revealed that Matthew, posing as a warrant officer, had been involved in a series of criminal activities across the state while wearing military attire.
Among the items recovered from Matthew were a walkie-talkie, several phones suspected to have been stolen from his victims, a brown coverall, and an RCC ID card. The police spokesperson assured that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
ASP John also called on the public to continue supporting the police with reliable information. She emphasized the commitment of the Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, to eradicating crime in Akwa Ibom State.
