Fuji musician Remi Aluko has asserted that Afrobeats artists are appropriating elements from the Fuji genre.
According to him, Afrobeats artists, especially in their chorus patterns, have taken inspiration from Fuji music. In a recent interview with Echo Room, Aluko specifically mentioned Burna Boy, suggesting that the Afrofusion artist’s stage performance is distinctly influenced by the Fuji genre.
Aluko stated, “Afrobeats artists are stealing from Fuji music. They know that. They stole a lot of things from Fuji music. Part of Afrobeats song chorus is from Fuji music. Burna Boy, for instance, his stage performance is totally unique because it’s inspired by fuji.”
