The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed a horrifying incident where armed bandits intercepted an Abakaliki-bound luxury bus, robbing passengers and subsequently setting the bus ablaze. Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, verified the incident through her social media platform.
The attack occurred at Oke Ado junction in Ijebu Mushin on the Ijebu Ode-Ore-Benin expressway, where the bandits targeted a luxury bus (Mercedes Benz) traveling from Maza Maza.
According to Odutola, the criminals, armed with cutlasses, robbed the passengers before setting the vehicle on fire.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, after stripping the 59 occupants of their belongings, locked them inside the bus before igniting the flames.
Fortunately, the passengers managed to break the windows and escape before the bus was completely engulfed in fire.
The management of Ifesinachi Transport Nig. Ltd, to which the bus belonged, confirmed the incident, expressing shock and dismay.
Survivors, in a distressing video shared on social media, recounted the terrifying ordeal, describing how they were robbed and subjected to violence by the armed bandits.
Despite the losses incurred and injuries sustained, the survivors expressed gratitude that no lives were lost in the harrowing attack.
They emphasized the urgent need for assistance as they found themselves stranded in the aftermath of the traumatic event.
