In a recent operation, the diligent operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) apprehended two individuals involved in the illicit trade of drug-infused chin-chin, targeting unsuspecting school students and revelers at social gatherings in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.
The apprehended duo consists of a 20-year-old hair stylist named Josephine Odunu and a 30-year-old dispatch rider named Edesemi Ikporo. According to a press release by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the interception occurred during a routine patrol in the Opolo area of Yenagoa on Sunday, March 10th, 2024.
Edesemi, the motorcycle dispatch rider, was apprehended with 200 grams of chin-chin infused with cannabis sativa. A subsequent swift operation led to the arrest of Josephine, who was found to be a major distributor of the drugged snack from her salon located in the Kpansia area of Yenagoa. During the search of the salon premises, an additional 3 kilograms of the illicit substance were recovered, bringing the total confiscated amount to 3.2 kilograms.
Investigations revealed that they frequently distributed the cannabis-laced chin-chin, with Edesemi handling deliveries and Josephine serving as a primary distributor to a wanted suspect responsible for producing the drugged snack.
