Banks and telecommunication companies in Nigeria are currently grappling with internet outages caused by damage to international undersea cables that supply them with connectivity.
The disruption stems from damage to major undersea cables near Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, affecting several countries in West and South Africa.
The affected cables include the West Africa Cable System (WACS), Africa Coast to Europe (ACE), MainOne, and SAT3. Consequently, bank networks in Nigeria have experienced downtime, leading to an inability to process transactions. This disruption has also resulted in complaints from MTN subscribers and other telecom users regarding poor data experience since Thursday morning.

MTN has issued a statement addressing the concerns of its subscribers, acknowledging the issue and disclosing the cause of the poor internet connectivity.
