Pharmacist Ibrahim Babasheu, the Registrar of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), has encouraged Nigerian students aspiring to study abroad to seek advice from the Council before embarking on such journeys.
He emphasized the importance of consulting the PCN to avoid wasteful experiences.
Pharmacist Babasheu highlighted that the PCN maintains a record of foreign institutions with its accreditation to train pharmacists. He urged students to undergo proper orientation and ensure that they accept admissions only from schools with appropriate accreditation.
This advice was shared during the induction/convocation ceremony for Pharmacy Technician and Public Health Technician at Mercy College of Health Sciences and Technology in Iwo, Osun State. Representing the PCN, Pharmacist Adenike Ogunlola cautioned students against pursuing degrees in neighboring West African countries like Benin Republic, Togo, and Cameroon without accreditation, as it could result in a waste of resources and time.
He stressed that if students seek foreign degrees, it must be from PCN-approved institutions. Pharmacist Ogunlola reassured that the PCN supports further education abroad but emphasized the importance of confirming the accreditation status of the chosen institution before accepting admission. Students were encouraged to reach out to the PCN website or offices for information on the status of foreign institutions.
Professor Ajibade Lawal, the Chairman of the induction ceremony, urged the students to adhere strictly to the ethics of the profession to become the best among their peers. He emphasized the importance of courage in medical courses and cautioned against engaging in sharp practices that could tarnish the image of both their institution and the professional body they belong to
