The Oyo State Government issued a stern warning on Tuesday, giving a seven-day ultimatum to individuals occupying and owning unlawfully erected kiosks, containers, shanties, and businesses along road sides.
The ultimatum, delivered by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Abdulmojeed Mogbojuola, came during his official visit to Ojoo community in the Akinyele Local Government Area.
Mogbojubola emphasized that the presence of these structures has become a menace to public health and is causing unnecessary disruptions to the smooth flow of traffic, pedestrians, and vehicles. Such activities are in direct violation of the Environmental Sanitation Regulation of 2013.
“The act has been causing unwarranted obstruction of free flow of traffic, passersby, and vehicles,” stated Mogbojubola. He firmly asserted that illegal operations must cease, particularly those encroaching upon road sides and drainages. The occupants were given a strict seven-day deadline to vacate the premises.
Mogbojubola recommended the relocation of business activities to designated areas like neighborhood markets. This measure, he explained, is not only to ensure compliance with regulations but also to mitigate the risk of road accidents, thus safeguarding lives and property.
The ultimatum serves as a clear directive from the government to address the issue promptly and uphold environmental and traffic regulations within the state.
