In a tragic incident along the Owerri-Ihiala Expressway in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, a solitary accident resulted in the untimely deaths of a truck driver and his conductor.
Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, confirmed the occurrence of the incident on a fateful Friday. He attributed the probable cause to speeding and loss of control.
The accident involved a Mercedes truck bearing registration number XD131NSH, reportedly operated by an unidentified commercial driver. Eyewitnesses shared that the driver was traveling at high speed before losing control of the vehicle. The truck veered off the road, colliding with a large gutter, leading to a fatal crash.
Regrettably, both the driver and conductor, identified as male adults, lost their lives in the accident. Good Samaritans played a crucial role in transporting the deceased victims to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Mortuary in Ihiala before the arrival of the FRSC rescue team.
The diligent efforts of the FRSC rescue team facilitated the removal of debris from the expressway, restoring normalcy to both vehicular and human movement in the area.
Expressing heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, Sector Commander Irelewuyi emphasized the importance of responsible driving. He urged motorists to avoid excessive speeding and adhere to safe speed limits to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
