In a recent turn of events, the Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended Ogeh Bethel Chibuife, an imposter posing as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.
The arrest occurred at the Magaji Dan Yumusa Orientation Camp in Keffi, the state capital. The revelation came to light through a statement issued by the state police spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, on Thursday.
Nansel disclosed that the suspect, identified as an extra-year student of Public Administration at Ebonyi State University, illegally gained entry into the NYSC camp designated for the 2024 Batch A, Stream 1 corps members. The deception was unveiled during a routine headcount, prompting an NYSC official to report the case to the police.
Investigations uncovered that Chibuife, in a bid to conceal academic setbacks, purchased NYSC uniforms and other paraphernalia meant for corps members. The motive behind her actions was to capture photos within the camp and send them to her parents before being exposed.
“She confessed that she was supposed to have graduated in 2022 but had a lot of spillover courses,” Nansel revealed.
Chibuife now faces charges of criminal trespass, impersonation, and forgery at the Chief Magistrate Court in Keffi, according to Nansel.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada, issues a stern warning to individuals contemplating such deceitful actions. He emphasizes that the law will inevitably catch up with those aspiring to follow in the footsteps of these counterfeit corps members.
