D’Tigers, a Nigerian basketball team has withdrawn from the Afrobasket qualifiers window due to lack of funds.
On Wednesday, D’Tigers made this announcement, informing the public of their withdrawal from the Afrobasket qualifiers window, with reasons of lack of financial support from the federal government of Nigeria.
Whereas, in the early era of the year, 2024, president Tinubu had cleared the outstanding payment that was owed to the Super Eagles and other sporting teams of the country.
According to a statement on X posted by the Media Centre of President Tinubu, on Sunday, the payment clears the senior national team coach salaries running up to 15 months, females, and Under-20 national team, and payments of allowances and promises due to the senior national team.
The statement reads:
“President @officialABAT has approved the payment of N12 billion outstanding backlog for Nigeria’s National teams of various sports, which includes Super Eagles and others.
“The payment entails the clearing of the senior national team coach salaries running up to 15 months, payments of allowances and promises due to the senior national teams, females, and Under-20 national team.”
