In the heart of the nation’s capital, a crucial gathering is set to unfold, echoing the concerns of a nation grappling with the surging cost of cement.

The Minister of Works, His Excellency, David Umahi, has orchestrated this meeting that is aimed at confronting the rise in prices of cement as cost by manufacturers and wholesalers.

Scheduled for Monday, February 19, 2024, at the Ministry’s Conference Hall in Mabushi, Abuja, this summit holds the promise of unraveling the mysteries behind the rise in the cost of cement in the country. The Minister has extended summons to the titans of the cement industry – Dangote Plc, BUA Plc, Larfarge, and other key players.

In a statement released by the Minister’s Special Adviser (Media), Orji Uchenna Orji, the urgency of the meeting is underscored. The Minister, expressing a blend of concern and determination, seeks to address the widening gap between the ex-factory price and the market price of cement. He acknowledges the challenges faced by the manufacturers but emphasizes the need for a collective exploration of the situation and related issues.

“The cement industry is at a crossroads,” declares Umahi. “While we recognize the challenges faced by manufacturers, we must bridge the gap between production costs and market prices. This summit aims to foster collaboration, understanding, and a shared commitment to finding a common front.”

In the spirit of unity and cooperation, the summoned cement magnates are called upon to bring forth their perspectives, challenges, and solutions to the table. It’s not just a meeting; it’s a quest for a harmonious balance between the economic realities faced by manufacturers and the aspirations of a nation building its future in concrete.

As the Minister of Works takes center stage, the stage is set for a dialogue, where all the key producers of cement in the country are meant to cooperate and proffer solutions to the issue at hand.
