The Nigerian lady Ya’u Jatau who was imprisoned for eighteen months on charges of blasphemy has been released.
The husband expresses his joy over his wife’s release, as she served her eighteen month jail term over her opposition to the murder of Deborah in Sokoto State.
He said: “I feel very, very happy that my wife has been released and is back home. I cannot thank God enough. I want to thank everyone who made this happen.
“That is all I can say at the moment.”
According to an anonymous source, she was released on bail after the Nigerian Inter-Religious Council, Christian Solidarity Worldwide Nigeria and the Christian Association of Nigeria intervened in the matter.
Jatau was arrested in May 2922 for alleged blasphemy due to a supposed lack of trial by the murderers of Deborah. Jatau alleged that the late Deborah, who was a 200 level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto was lynched over a video of religious material on her WhatsApp.
After completing her jail term, Jatau, the mother of three was released last Friday, however the court that granted her bail was not mentioned but it is reported that the Inter-Religious Council had been a key part of her release.
Ya’u said:
“Following the outcry from the Christian community in Nigeria over the continued detention of Rhoda Jatau in Bauchi Prison, the Christian Association of Nigeria, the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council, and Christian Solidarity Worldwide Nigeria have swiftly intervened in the matter.
“We are pleased to report that Mrs Rhoda has been granted bail and subsequently released from detention today. We have high hopes that the case will end in praise. Let’s continue to keep her in our prayers. The leadership of NIREC played a key role. Praise be to our God”,
Ya’u’s happiness is boundless as he thanks the association.
