The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Engineer Charles Ugwu, in Imo State has been suspended.
Hon. Emeka Alihe, the PDP Chairman of Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area has moved the motion for the suspension of the PDP chairman Engr. Charles Ugwu. Backing the motion was Hon. God’spower Appollos, the PDP Chairman of Owerri Municipal.
Up to eighteen (18) Local Government Chairman and some members of the State Executive Committee all supported the motion.
Chidi Dike, the party’s zonal chairman for Okigwe, was named the party’s interim state chairma, after Charles Ugwu was suspended due to accusations of disobedience and misconduct.
In a letter tagged, “Majority Resolution of Members of the State Executive Committee of Peoples Democratic Party, Imo state Chapter at Its Meeting passed vote of no confidence/suspension on Engr Charles Ugwu from Office Immediately as the Chairman, Imo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party”.
And signed by Him. Njaba Duruiheoma, the party’s state secretary, and chieftain Emeka Alihe, requested that Engr. Charles Ugwu should should be suspended from his position with immediate effect.
According to Njaba, the party chairman disregarded Sec. 21(3) of the Party Constitution by failing to call a meeting of the State Working Committee.
The party’s governorship candidate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, was on thank-you visits to the twenty-seven (27) L.G.A. of the State, and Engr. Ugwu claimed he had no excuse for missing any of them.
A party chieftain, Hon. John Diala said, “his suspension would have come earlier but was kept till after election to avoid people reading negative meaning.”
They also stated to the fact that, in violation of Sec. 58(i)(e) of the Party Constitution, Engineer Ugwu did not attend the Owerri Municipal Council thank-you visit, which was held at the State Secretariat of the party, even after been informed formerly. Hence his suspension should be immediate due to several misconducts and disregard for the party’s constitution.
