As the festive season approaches, the Federal Road Safety Corps advises road users to apply day time travel stead of night travels.
On Friday, Mr. Ibrahim Maiyaki-Bazama, the FRSC Sector Commander in Katsina State, gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria. Advising road users to apply caution and travel daytime instead of night to avoid malevolent occurrences.
Mr. Ibrahim said:
“People have freedom of movement, but we, as the road safety corps, have the mandate to take measures that will help minimise road crashes.
“Part of such measures is that we encourage people to stop or minimise night travel.
“This is because when a motorist is driving at night, he cannot see beyond the reach of the vehicle’s light.
“In case of an accident, sometimes helpers are not readily available, or it takes time to get those who will assist”.
He also mentioned that the team is fully ready to back up rescue teams and ensure lives are safe. The teams are in Kankia, Koza, Malumfashi, Funtua and Daura.
The Sector Commander expressed that the directive to include stakeholders in road safety is all geared towards reducing road accidents.
He also advised drivers to drive carefully by saying “it is only the living that celebrates”, hence drivers should obey the traffic laws.
