Amaju Pinnick the former president of the Nigerian Football Federation has charged the afrobeat singer Davido to court for a breach of contract.
Amaju Pinnick has filed a lawsuit against Davido, demanding N2.3 billion for damages and asking for a four day apology.
The issue suffices as Davido did not perform at a show titled ‘Warri Again?’. It appears that the show in which Davido was to perform is organized by Brownhill Investment Company Limited, owned by Amaju Pinnick.
According to reports, the claimant represented by attorney Kelechi Onwuegbuchulem has charged Davido for a breach of contract. He claimed that Davido failed to appear at the show as scheduled.
The lawsuit was filed at the Delta State High Court in Effurun, with case number EHC/183/2023.
Additionally, Amaju Pinnick’s company is requesting the court to award ₦150 million as legal and professional fees, along with an extra ₦30 million to cover the costs associated with filing the lawsuit.
Alongside, the Amaju Pinnick legal team is urging Davido to issue a four day public apology to Amaju Pinnick.
According to reports, Davido had approached Amaju Pinnick at the Abuja airport and expressed interest in being contracted for the 19th edition of the “Warri Again Concert” that was scheduled to take place on October, 6th, 2023.
Pinnick agreed after some reluctance and they settled for a fee of N70 million.
The required amount was paid to Davido on the 6th of April, 2023 via dollar, rating $94,500 which is equivalent to N70 million as of April, 2023. The payment was acknowledged by Davido, hence Mr. Pinnick expected him to perform in October.
However, on the day of the show, Davido did not show up to fulfil his bargain of the contract, thereby resulting in Mr. Pinnick’s legal movement against the singer.
The claimant also explained that he had spent a huge sum on flyers, prints, social media adverts and other advertisements.
In a further twist, the claimant also said that on September 29, 2023, just a week prior to the event, Davido received a formal reminder letter and flight itinerary for a private jet chartered to transport him and his team to and from Warri, incurring an additional $18,000 in costs.
However, all efforts to get in contact with Davido and his group on October 6, 2023, the day of the event, were ineffective, and that the private plane that was scheduled to transport Davido and his group to Warri at the Lagos Airport was left available in case they later turned up at the airport.
As a result, Pinnick is requesting a full refund of the paid money as Davido did not show up to fulfil his part of the agreement.
