For a few seconds, I stood transfixed and in awe of how good looking he was. Now, don’t get me wrong, I get to see cute guys at work every day, but he was a different kind of cute. When I got back to my senses, I replied: “I heard you, and I responded duly”. He definitely wasn’t having it, so he said: “You weren’t polite about it.”
My default response was to ignore him, but at this point, everyone in the queue began to turn in our direction. I managed a smile and thanked him again. When I got to the end of the line, I made my order, and just as I was about making payment, he stretched out his card to the attendant, right from behind. After that day at the movies, I was sure that I wouldn’t have forgiven myself if I hadn’t given him my number that day. In the next 6 months, of constant communication and dates, we got used to ourselves. Though he hadn’t asked me to be his girlfriend yet, I knew the day was fast approaching.
After about a year of friendship, I decided to let him know I had plans of defining the relationship. I remember vividly that day in his living room when I asked: “So what plans do you have us?”At first, he looked startled, then he started, “We are friends Aisha, that is the most important thing”. It was at that moment I knew I should have left and never look back but a sudden rage in me was stirred up by his reply then I said: “What does that mean? Are you scared of commitment or what?” Just then, his phone rang, and then he picked it up. When he ended the conversation, he stood and went to the door, the next thing I saw was a light-skinned lady standing beside him and holding his hands.
His introduction was what broke my heart…
