Old Malaria Drug Chloroquine is effective in fighting Coronavirus

The latest discovery on Coronavirus has brought hope to the disease as the  Old Malaria Drug Chloroquine is effective in fighting Coronavirus.

China has discovered that the old anti malaria drug used mainly in the 80s to fight malaria is effective in fighting Coronavirus. The anti malaria drug Chloroquine,  which became unpopular as malaria parasites grew resistant to it has come back to life as a treatment for Coronavirus.

Coronavirus which emerged in Wuhan, China has affected 25,000 people in 25 Countries around the world. The death toll from the Virus is about 1,400. Chloroquine might be getting new life  as the anti viral treatment for the disease.

According to scientist at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, both Chloroquine and the already avialable  anti viral drug, remdesivir were individually highly effective in the treatment of Coronavirus.

Chloroquine has been used for centuries to cure malaria. it is basically found in the bark of Cincona, found in Peru. It basically is one of the World Health Organisation’s  essential drugs.

However recently, a foreigner was quarantined in Egypt over a suspected case of coronavirus. It was recorded as the disease’  first case in Africa. It has been confirmed yesterday, that the patient tested negative for Coronavirus..
