Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has expressed frustration over Nigeria’s persistent electricity crisis, questioning why millions of citizens are still struggling with unreliable power supply in 2026.

The veteran actress criticised the country’s electricity situation in a video shared on Instagram on Friday, November 6, 2026, where she directly challenged the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, to explain the continued outages.

According to Henshaw, electricity sometimes returns for only five minutes before disappearing again, leaving households and businesses struggling to carry out basic daily activities.

She also questioned a statement reportedly attributed to the minister suggesting that some electricity consumers had complained about excessive power supply because their freezers were freezing their food.

Her comments have generated attention online, with many Nigerians identifying with her frustration over the cost and inconvenience of alternative power sources.

Here are five major details from her reaction.

1. Kate Henshaw says electricity lasts only five minutes

Kate Henshaw shared her frustration in a video on her official Instagram profile, where she challenged the Minister of Power over the persistent electricity outages affecting Nigerians.

Henshaw expressed disbelief that Nigeria continues to experience unreliable electricity despite being in 2026.

During her video, she directly addressed the Minister of Power, complaining about the brief periods of electricity available to residents.

In her words:

“Come on, Mr Minister of Power. No light. There’s no light. There’s hardly been any electricity. You people bring it for maybe five minutes, and then it’s gone.”

The actress questioned why Nigerians were still struggling with a basic necessity that is essential for homes, businesses, education and economic activities.

Her complaint reflects the frustration experienced by electricity consumers who deal with repeated interruptions and unpredictable supply.

For households, unreliable electricity can affect food preservation, water supply, cooling systems, household appliances and other essential activities.

2. She challenges the Minister of Power over freezer comments

Another major issue raised by the actress was a statement reportedly attributed to the Minister of Power concerning complaints from some electricity consumers.

According to the account she referenced, some people had allegedly complained in September that their freezers were freezing their food because of the electricity supply.

Henshaw questioned the logic behind such a complaint, arguing that freezers are designed to keep food frozen.

She challenged the minister to identify the people who allegedly made the complaints.

“You were credited with a statement that in September, some people were telling you that you should turn off the power because the things in their freezers were freezing. What’s a freezer for?” she queried.

The actress demanded the names and telephone numbers of those who allegedly contacted the minister to request reduced electricity supply.

Her comments were aimed at questioning the explanation reportedly given for the state of electricity supply and whether it reflected the experiences of ordinary consumers.

The reported freezer complaints have not been independently established in the information available for this report.

3. Kate Henshaw says Nigerian homes are becoming factories

The actress also lamented how unreliable electricity has forced Nigerians to find alternative ways of generating power in their homes.

According to Henshaw, households are increasingly relying on generators, inverters and solar energy to meet their electricity needs.

She described the situation as one in which homes are gradually becoming factories because residents must generate their own electricity to carry out ordinary activities.

The situation has created additional financial pressure for families who must pay electricity bills while also spending money on alternative power sources.

For people using petrol generators, the cost of fuel and maintenance adds to household expenses. Those relying on solar energy also have to contend with the initial cost of purchasing panels, batteries and inverters.

Small businesses face similar challenges, particularly those that depend on electricity to preserve products, operate equipment and serve customers.

Henshaw’s comments highlight the burden placed on consumers when regular electricity supply cannot meet their daily needs.

4. She questions what authorities are doing about the electricity crisis

Henshaw also questioned the efforts being made by government officials to improve electricity supply.

She expressed frustration that Nigerians continued to experience power interruptions despite the importance of the electricity sector and the substantial public resources associated with it.

The actress questioned why the country was still discussing basic electricity availability in 2026.

She also demanded accountability from those responsible for managing the sector, insisting that consumers deserved better explanations and improved service.

Her criticism comes amid continuing complaints from electricity consumers in different parts of Nigeria about inadequate supply.

The challenges affecting the power sector include gas supply constraints, generation problems, transmission limitations and distribution difficulties.

These issues have contributed to the difficulty of maintaining consistent electricity supply across the country.

However, Henshaw’s central concern was the experience of ordinary Nigerians who continue to struggle with frequent outages.

5. Nigerians continue to express frustration over poor electricity supply

Henshaw’s comments have added to the growing public conversation about electricity supply and the financial burden of alternative energy sources.

Many Nigerians depend on generators, solar systems and inverters to keep their homes and businesses operating when public electricity is unavailable.

The situation is particularly difficult for households that cannot afford solar installations or the recurring cost of purchasing fuel.

Electricity interruptions can also affect students studying at home, professionals working remotely, businesses operating computers and shops that depend on refrigeration.

The actress’s video has therefore attracted attention beyond the entertainment industry, touching on an issue that affects millions of Nigerians.

Her remarks also underline the expectations of electricity consumers who want reliable supply rather than repeated explanations for poor service.

Kate Henshaw’s comments spark another conversation about Nigeria’s power sector

Kate Henshaw’s reaction has brought renewed attention to the difficulties associated with unreliable electricity in Nigeria.

Her complaint that power sometimes lasts for only five minutes captures the frustration of consumers who have to make expensive alternative arrangements to keep their homes and businesses running.

Although the actress’s experience represents her personal account, the broader challenges facing the electricity sector remain an important national issue.

Nigerians continue to expect improvements in generation, transmission and distribution, alongside greater accountability from the authorities responsible for providing electricity.

For now, Henshaw has made her position clear: Nigerians should not still be struggling to enjoy reliable electricity in 2026.
