Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has been granted bail in the sum of ₦30 million by the Federal High Court in Lagos over alleged cyberstalking and other offences involving popular cleric Pastor Chris Okafor.

Justice Akintayo Aluko delivered the ruling on Friday, November 6, 2026, after considering the actress’s bail application and arguments presented by both the prosecution and defence.

However, the court attached strict conditions to her release, including the provision of two sureties, surrender of her international passport and restrictions on electronic publications capable of intimidating or harassing prosecution witnesses.

The ruling followed Ogala’s remand at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre after her arraignment in connection with the case.

The development has attracted attention among Nigerians, particularly because of the public controversy surrounding the actress and the cleric.

Here are five important details about the court’s decision.

1. Court grants Doris Ogala ₦30 million bail

Justice Akintayo Aluko granted Doris Ogala bail in the sum of ₦30 million, with two sureties required to provide security in like sum.

The judge said the decision was reached after considering the circumstances of the case and the need to balance the defendant’s constitutional right to personal liberty with the responsibility of ensuring her attendance at trial.

The court also considered the need to protect prosecution witnesses and preserve the integrity of the judicial process.

Ogala had applied for bail through an application dated October 26 and filed on October 27, 2026.

Her legal team argued that the offences were bailable and that she should be allowed to leave custody to prepare adequately for her defence.

The prosecution, however, opposed the application, raising concerns about her previous attendance at court proceedings and the possibility of witness intimidation.

Despite the prosecution’s objections, the judge ruled that granting bail with appropriate conditions was in the interest of justice.

2. She must provide two sureties with strict requirements

One of the major conditions imposed by the court is the provision of two sureties in like sum.

The judge specified that at least one of the sureties must either own a property in Lagos State or qualify under the alternative categories stated in the ruling.

For a property owner, verifiable evidence of registration at the Lagos State Land Registry, duly certified by the Registrar of Deeds, must be provided.

Alternatively, the surety may be a prominent national officer of Ogala’s political party or a prominent person of recognised standing.

The court further directed that both sureties must be people of reliable financial means and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Their details and supporting documents will also be subjected to verification by the court registrar.

In addition, each surety must submit tax clearance certificates covering the previous three years and provide two recent passport photographs.

These requirements mean that Ogala’s release depends on satisfying the conditions and completing the necessary verification process.

3. Court orders actress to surrender her international passport

Another important condition is the surrender of Ogala’s international passport to the court registrar.

The order forms part of the measures imposed to ensure that she remains available for the continuation of the criminal proceedings.

The judge also directed her to enter into a recognisance on oath to maintain good behaviour throughout the trial.

She was further instructed to refrain from misconduct within the courtroom and its premises.

Justice Aluko expressed concern over an incident during proceedings on October 28, 2026, which he said disrupted the court’s sitting and resulted in the adjournment of several cases.

The judge acknowledged that Ogala had apologised for her conduct but maintained that appropriate conditions were necessary to protect the proceedings.

He nevertheless emphasised that the actress remained presumed innocent under the law.

4. Doris Ogala restrained from intimidating prosecution witnesses online

The court also placed restrictions on the actress’s online activities while the case remains before it.

Justice Aluko restrained Ogala from making electronic publications capable of exposing prosecution witnesses to harassment, ridicule, threats or intimidation.

The order is particularly significant because the allegations against her involve the use of electronic communications and social media platforms.

The prosecution had raised concerns that her online activities could potentially affect witnesses or interfere with the ongoing proceedings.

The judge considered these concerns when determining the conditions for her bail.

The restriction should not be interpreted as a blanket ban on every social media activity. It specifically concerns electronic publications capable of intimidating or harassing prosecution witnesses and undermining the integrity of the proceedings.

Ogala has maintained a public presence online, where she has previously shared her views about the controversy involving Pastor Chris Okafor.

Readers can visit her Instagram profile, @doris_ogala, to see her public updates. The profile link does not, however, represent a confirmed statement from her about the latest bail ruling.

5. Her lawyer says she is receiving medical treatment after surgery

Another development during Friday’s proceedings concerned Ogala’s absence from the courtroom when the case was called.

Her lawyer, Marshal Abubakar, informed the court that the actress was receiving medical treatment at General Hospital in Ajegunle.

According to the lawyer, she had undergone gynaecological surgery, which had resulted in bleeding and required further medical attention.

The defence had previously relied on health concerns when explaining some of her absences from court.

The prosecution, however, challenged the explanation during its opposition to the bail application, arguing that there were concerns about her previous attendance at scheduled proceedings.

The judge considered the arguments before granting bail with the conditions outlined in his ruling.

Once Ogala fulfils the requirements, including the submission and verification of the sureties’ documents, the court directed that she should be released from custody.

Background: Why is Doris Ogala facing trial?

The case involving Doris Ogala and Pastor Chris Okafor has attracted considerable public attention following the actress’s allegations about their alleged past relationship.

Ogala had publicly spoken about her relationship with the cleric and made claims surrounding their personal dealings.

The dispute later developed into a legal matter, with the Federal Government bringing charges against the actress.

The prosecution alleges that she engaged in cyberstalking and other offences involving electronic communications and materials relating to Pastor Okafor.

The allegations include the publication of private materials without consent, dissemination of allegedly false information, cyberbullying and attempted extortion.

These remain allegations before the court and have not been established as facts through a final judgment.

Ogala has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Her bail application was therefore considered while the criminal proceedings remain pending.

What happens next in Doris Ogala’s case?

Although the court has granted Ogala bail, she must first satisfy all the conditions before she can be released from custody.

The bail ruling does not amount to an acquittal, nor does it bring the criminal case to an end.

The actress is still expected to appear in court as required while the prosecution and defence proceed with the trial.

The case has been adjourned to March 25, 2027, for trial.

For now, the major development is that Ogala has secured bail after the court imposed conditions aimed at ensuring her attendance and protecting the witnesses involved in the case.
