Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has expressed confidence that his opportunity to win the Ballon d’Or will eventually arrive after finishing third in the 2026 men’s rankings.
The 19-year-old Spain international reacted on social media on Tuesday, October 27, a day after Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane claimed football’s prestigious individual award at a ceremony in London.
Kane finished first in the voting, ahead of Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé, while Yamal secured third place. Despite missing out on the main prize, the Barcelona winger remained optimistic about his future.
In his message, Yamal wrote: “It will come; good things take time. I trust the path I am building. My time will come.”
The young forward also congratulated the winners and indicated that his attention had returned to helping Barcelona achieve success.

Yamal Remains Confident Despite Ballon d’Or Disappointment
Although finishing third meant Yamal missed out on the biggest individual award in men’s football, his response suggested that he remains determined to continue developing rather than dwell on the result.
At just 19, the Barcelona winger has already established himself as one of the most exciting young players in world football.
His performances for Barcelona and Spain have earned him widespread recognition, and he has consistently featured among the leading contenders for major individual honours.
Yamal finished eighth in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings before rising to second place in 2025. His third-place finish in 2026 marks another appearance on the podium and reinforces his status among football’s elite.
While the latest result may have been disappointing, the winger’s message showed his belief that continued hard work and patience could eventually bring him the award.
Harry Kane Wins the 2026 Ballon d’Or
Kane claimed the 2026 men’s Ballon d’Or after an outstanding season with Bayern Munich and the England national team.
The 33-year-old striker became the first Englishman to win the award since Michael Owen in 2001.
His achievement followed a productive campaign in which he played a major role in Bayern Munich’s domestic success, further strengthening his case for the individual honour.
Mbappé finished second, while Yamal took third place.
The result also marked a significant milestone for Kane, who had spent years establishing himself among Europe’s most prolific forwards before securing the prestigious award.
Yamal Makes History With Another Kopa Trophy
Although he missed out on the main prize, Yamal left the ceremony with the Kopa Trophy, which recognises the best young player in men’s football.
His latest triumph marked his third consecutive win, following his successes in 2024 and 2025.
The achievement further underlined his exceptional progress at Barcelona and his growing influence on the international stage.
During the 2025/26 season, Yamal played a key role in Barcelona’s campaign, contributing goals, assists and creativity in the attacking third. His performances helped the Catalan club secure the La Liga title and the Spanish Super Cup.
The winger’s combination of technical ability, pace and confidence has made him an important figure in Barcelona’s long-term plans.
His latest Kopa Trophy also provides further evidence of his standing among the most promising talents in the game.
Barcelona Remains Yamal’s Priority
Despite his individual ambitions, Yamal made it clear that his immediate focus remains on helping Barcelona win trophies.
His message following the ceremony reflected a determination to move forward rather than allow the Ballon d’Or result to overshadow his objectives.
The teenager has already achieved considerable success at a young age, but winning the main award remains a significant ambition for the years ahead.
With several seasons still to come in his career, Yamal will have further opportunities to compete for football’s biggest individual honour.
For now, his third-place finish and historic Kopa Trophy achievement represent another important chapter in his development.
His message was simple: he believes his opportunity will come, and he intends to keep working towards it.
