1. ‘America Trained Me, But Nigeria Made Me’

During the panel discussion, Shaffy Bello reflected on how her life experiences in both the United States and Nigeria shaped her identity and career trajectory.

Acknowledging her growth while abroad, Shaffy Bello explained that Nigeria provided the platform, recognition, and cultural resonance that ultimately built her as an icon: “America trained me, but Nigeria made me.”

2. Rejecting the ‘Opportunity’ to Relocate Abroad

Addressing the pervasive “Japa” trend—where young professionals actively seek to emigrate from Nigeria—Shaffy Bello revealed that she prays never to move back to the United States.

“I pray I never get the opportunity, as they call it, to go back,” Shaffy Bello shared. “Because of the opportunities that I’ve seen in this country, and I am still seeing, I don’t ever want to go back. This is home, this is where it is.”

3. Encouraging Youth to Focus on Inner Strengths and Skills

While Shaffy Bello acknowledged national difficulties surrounding power supply, education, and healthcare infrastructure, she urged young Nigerians not to overlook the vast potential within the domestic market.

Challenging youth to look inward, Shaffy Bello asked: “Look within yourself, what do you have to offer? What is in your hands?” She urged young people to acquire practical skills, build resilience, and create solutions rather than waiting for external rescue.

4. Keys to Longevity in the Nollywood Entertainment Industry

Maintaining an active, high-profile career spanning decades, Shaffy Bello attributed her enduring relevance in the film industry to staying authentic and holding on to her faith.

She advised aspiring actors and creators to remain true to themselves, avoid copying trends simply to fit in, and build a lasting reputation grounded in honesty and work ethic.

5. From 1997 Hit Song ‘Love Nwantinti’ to Screen Stardom

Shaffy Bello first achieved national recognition in 1997 when she sang the iconic vocal chorus on Seyi Sodimu’s classic hit song, “Love Nwantinti”.

After living in the U.S. for years, she returned to Nigeria and successfully transitioned into screen acting, becoming one of Nollywood’s most sought-after stars with commanding roles in blockbusters such as Chief Daddy, King of Boys, Elesin Oba, and numerous hit TV series.
