Sean “Diddy” Combs’ projected federal prison release date has changed again, with the music mogul now scheduled to leave prison in January 2028.
According to Federal Bureau of Prisons records reviewed by multiple outlets, Combs is currently scheduled for release on January 21, 2028, from FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey. The latest change moves his projected release date forward from February 2028.
The latest update is the newest in a series of changes to the date since Combs began serving his federal sentence.
Here are five things to know.
1. Diddy’s new release date is January 21, 2028
Federal Bureau of Prisons records now list January 21, 2028, as Combs’ projected release date.
The date is earlier than several previous projections. Earlier this month, reports placed his release in February 2028, while a previous projection had been February 20. His original projected release was considerably later.
The Bureau of Prisons can adjust projected release dates based on factors such as time served, qualifying credits and participation in certain prison programs. USA TODAY reported that such modifications can involve good-conduct credits and participation in evidence-based or productive activities.
2. He is serving a 50-month federal sentence
Diddy Combs was sentenced in October 2025 to 50 months in federal prison after being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
He was also fined $500,000 and ordered to serve five years of supervised release after his imprisonment.
Combs was transferred from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn to the Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix, New Jersey, where he is currently serving his sentence.
3. The jury acquitted him of sex trafficking and racketeering
The latest release-date development should be viewed in the context of the 2025 federal trial.
A jury found Combs guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution but not guilty of racketeering conspiracy and two counts of sex trafficking.
The two convictions were the charges for which he ultimately received the 50-month sentence.

4. His release date changed despite a reported prison altercation
Combs’ projected release date has continued to change even after reports of an altercation with another inmate during the summer of 2026.
According to TMZ, Combs was involved in an encounter with another prisoner in July, after which he was reportedly placed in solitary confinement for a period. The Federal Bureau of Prisons did not confirm or discuss the specific circumstances, citing its policy of not commenting on individual inmates’ housing assignments, allegations or sanctions.
The latest release-date change therefore does not establish that the reported altercation had any direct connection to the new January 2028 date.
5. The date is a projected release date
Although January 21, 2028 is the current date listed in federal records, it is important to describe it as a projected release date, rather than an unchangeable guarantee.
Diddy Combs’ release date has already moved several times since his sentencing. USA TODAY reported that his initial projected release was May 8, 2028, before subsequent adjustments brought the date forward.
For now, however, the latest federal records indicate that the former Bad Boy Records boss is expected to leave FCI Fort Dix on January 21, 2028.
The latest update means Combs’ projected release is now just three weeks into 2028, marking another significant change in the timeline of his federal imprisonment.
