Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has opened up about life at 65, describing this stage of his journey as a blessing and admitting that he feels like he is living on “extra time.”
The celebrated actor made the heartfelt revelation during a recent appearance on The Morayo Show, where he reflected on aging, gratitude, fashion, health and what has helped him remain energetic despite reaching retirement age.

Speaking candidly during the interview, RMD explained that turning 65 carries a deeper meaning because neither of his parents lived to celebrate their 60th birthday.
According to him, every new day is a gift that he refuses to take for granted.
“Being 65, I feel like I am living an extra time right now. My parents didn’t make 60,” he said.
The award-winning actor explained that this realization has shaped his outlook on life, making gratitude one of the most important values he embraces daily.
Rather than focusing on growing older, RMD said he chooses to celebrate every opportunity life offers while appreciating the experiences that have brought him to this point.
“My life is one of gratitude,” he stated.
“I’m happy to be alive and Nigerian at this moment where more people are self-employed than ever in the world.”
The movie star noted that despite the numerous economic and social challenges facing the country, he remains optimistic about Nigeria because of the growing entrepreneurial spirit among its citizens.
According to him, more people are creating opportunities for themselves instead of waiting for traditional employment, a development he believes is changing lives across the country.
Beyond reflecting on life, RMD also addressed one of the questions fans ask him most frequently—how he has managed to maintain his youthful appearance over the years.
For decades, the actor has remained one of Nigeria’s most stylish celebrities, regularly earning praise for his fashion sense, physique and youthful energy.
Asked about the secret behind his appearance, the Nollywood icon pointed to discipline and consistency.
“I eat right and exercise,” he explained.
However, he believes physical fitness alone is not enough.
According to RMD, maintaining a youthful mindset is equally important.
He shared advice he once received from an older person that has continued to guide his approach to aging.
“The only way for an old person to stay young is to never let the old person in,” he said.
RMD explained that he has deliberately chosen not to allow age define how he thinks, dresses or carries himself.
Instead of adopting what society expects from someone his age, he continues to embrace modern fashion while remaining confident in his personal style.
“I do not in any way let the old person in,” he added.
“I could have been dressing like an old person but I maintain classy fashion.”
His comments also revealed the humorous relationship he shares with his family.
According to the actor, his eldest son, who is now 43 years old, often reacts to his fashion choices with playful disapproval.
“My eldest child is 43, and till today, he still looks at me whenever I dress and just hiss,” RMD joked.
Despite the teasing, the veteran actor made it clear that he has no intention of changing his style.
“But I’m not giving up now,” he said.
“There’s no way I’m going to give up.”
RMD’s comments have resonated with many Nigerians, particularly older fans who admire his confidence and positive outlook on aging.
His message serves as a reminder that growing older does not necessarily mean giving up personal ambitions, healthy habits or individual style.
Over the years, Richard Mofe-Damijo has built one of the most respected careers in Nollywood.
Known for his charisma, versatility and professionalism, he has featured in numerous blockbuster films and television productions spanning several decades.
Beyond acting, he has also served in public office and remains one of the most influential voices in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
His ability to remain relevant across generations has earned him admiration from younger actors and filmmakers, many of whom regard him as a mentor and role model.
Fans have continued to celebrate his latest remarks on social media, praising his honesty, confidence and refreshing perspective on aging.
Many described his statement about “never letting the old person in” as inspiring, while others applauded his commitment to healthy living and self-confidence.
As discussions around healthy aging continue to grow globally, RMD’s message reinforces the importance of maintaining both physical wellness and a positive mindset.
For many admirers, his journey at 65 is proof that age should never become a barrier to living with purpose, style and gratitude.
