Former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua returned to winning ways with a dramatic second-round knockout victory over Kristian Prenga on Saturday night in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The Nigerian-British boxing star overcame an early scare after being knocked down twice in the opening round before producing a remarkable comeback to stop the Albanian heavyweight, Prenga with a powerful right hand in the second round.

The victory marks Joshua’s successful return to the ring following a difficult period in his personal life and has reignited discussions about a long-awaited blockbuster showdown with fellow British heavyweight Tyson Fury.

Joshua survives early scare

The fight got off to a shocking start as Kristian Prenga came out aggressively, catching Joshua with heavy punches that sent the former champion to the canvas twice during the opening round.

Prenga’s fast-paced attack placed Joshua under immediate pressure and briefly raised concerns that the British-Nigerian boxer could suffer another setback.

However, Joshua remained composed despite the difficult start, weathering the storm and making important adjustments before the second round began.

His experience and resilience quickly became evident as he returned with renewed determination.

Second-round knockout

Joshua took control almost immediately after the second round started.

Using his jab effectively, he forced Prenga onto the back foot before creating an opening for a devastating right hand that landed cleanly.

The powerful punch sent Prenga crashing to the canvas.

Although Prenga attempted to recover, the referee decided he was unable to continue safely and waved off the contest, awarding Joshua a second-round knockout victory.

The impressive finish earned applause from fans in attendance and marked another highlight in Joshua’s successful professional career.

Emotional tribute after victory

Following the fight, Joshua dedicated the victory to two members of his support team, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, who tragically lost their lives in a road accident in Nigeria in December 2025.

Speaking emotionally during his post-fight interview, Joshua struggled to hold back tears as he reflected on the difficult months leading up to his return.

“It’s more than punch power. That was spirit, that was Latz, that was Sina, that was the family. It hurts to even talk about it. It has been tough,” Joshua said.

The heavyweight boxer briefly stepped away from the microphone while trying to compose himself before returning to add:

“It’s my brother. I don’t want to talk about it.”

His heartfelt tribute received warm applause from the audience.

Tyson Fury showdown back in focus

Joshua’s victory has once again intensified speculation about a potential fight against fellow British heavyweight Tyson Fury.

The two boxing stars have been linked with a mega-fight for several years, but negotiations have repeatedly failed to produce a confirmed date despite reports that agreements had previously been reached.

Interestingly, Fury secured his own victory less than 24 hours earlier after defeating Mariusz Wach in Thailand.

Although there had been speculation that Fury might attend Joshua’s fight in Saudi Arabia, he was not present at ringside.

Joshua welcomes the challenge

After his victory, Joshua made it clear that he remains interested in facing Fury.

He praised Fury’s achievements while expressing confidence that boxing fans deserve to finally see the long-awaited contest.

“I respect everything he has done and everything that he has achieved, but as a fighting person, we’re here now. I hope the fans will be in for a lovely treat,” Joshua said.

The comments immediately fuelled fresh excitement among boxing supporters eager to see two of Britain’s biggest heavyweight names finally meet inside the ring.

Career back on track

The victory over Prenga represents an important step in Joshua’s comeback journey.

Not only does it restore confidence after recent challenges, but it also strengthens his position among the heavyweight division’s leading contenders.

Joshua demonstrated resilience by recovering from two knockdowns before producing an emphatic finish, reminding fans why he remains one of boxing’s biggest attractions.

With momentum back on his side, attention will now shift toward what could become one of the biggest heavyweight fights in modern boxing history if negotiations with Tyson Fury are finally completed.

For now, Joshua leaves Saudi Arabia with an emotional victory, renewed confidence and fresh optimism for the future.
