Former Big Brother Naija winner Hazel Oyeze Onou, popularly known as Whitemoney, has opened up about his struggles with finding a life partner, blaming what he described as Nigeria’s evolving dating culture for delaying his plans to get married.

The reality TV star and singer admitted that, at 35, he is becoming increasingly concerned about remaining single. While he expressed his desire to settle down and start a family, he said finding a genuine partner has become more difficult than he expected.

Whitemoney shared his thoughts in a recent video posted on his social media page, where he discussed the challenges many single men face while navigating modern relationships in Nigeria.

According to Whitemoney, marriage is something he genuinely desires, but he believes finding the right woman has become increasingly difficult.

The former BBNaija winner admitted that he is no longer as comfortable with being single as he was in previous years.

Speaking candidly, he said:

“I can’t even lie, I’m getting old. But the dating culture in Nigeria is something else. I need a wife. Where do they find good women?”

His comments immediately sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians debating whether modern dating expectations have become too demanding.

Financial expectations worry the reality star

One of Whitemoney’s biggest concerns is what he described as the growing financial expectations placed on men in relationships.

According to him, many women appear to prioritise financial support over building meaningful relationships together.

He specifically referenced the culture of frequent financial requests, commonly referred to in Nigeria as “billing.”

Whitemoney said:

“A lot of Nigerian girls now, any small thing, billing, especially in Lagos.”

He explained that such expectations discourage many men who genuinely want long-term relationships based on mutual support and shared goals.

He wants a relationship built on partnership

Rather than focusing solely on financial obligations, Whitemoney said he hopes to meet someone interested in building a future together.

He questioned why conversations about teamwork and long-term planning appear to receive less attention than financial assistance.

According to him, relationships should involve both partners contributing toward shared dreams instead of one person carrying the entire burden.

His remarks reflect a broader conversation taking place among many young Nigerians regarding changing expectations in modern dating.

Social media reactions divided

Whitemoney’s comments generated mixed reactions across social media.

Some users agreed with his observations, arguing that financial expectations have become a major challenge for many people seeking genuine relationships.

Others disagreed, saying both men and women now face significant pressures when dating and that financial stability has always been an important consideration in choosing a life partner.

Several commenters also pointed out that successful relationships depend on compatibility, communication and shared values rather than generalising either gender.

Dating culture continues to evolve

Over the years, dating in Nigeria has changed significantly, influenced by social media, changing lifestyles and shifting expectations.

Many relationships now begin online, while discussions around financial responsibility, gender roles and career ambitions have become increasingly common.

These changes have created different experiences for different people.

While some individuals successfully build lasting relationships, others believe finding compatible partners has become more challenging than in previous generations.

Whitemoney’s comments have therefore resonated with many Nigerians who feel modern dating comes with increasing emotional and financial pressures.

Whitemoney’s journey since BBNaija

Whitemoney rose to national fame after winning Big Brother Naija Season 6 in 2021.

His calm personality, cooking skills and ability to connect with fellow housemates made him one of the most popular contestants during the season.

Since winning the reality show, he has expanded his career into music, entertainment, brand endorsements and entrepreneurship.

Despite his growing success, he has generally kept his romantic life private.

His latest comments provide one of the clearest insights yet into his thoughts on marriage and relationships.

Still hopeful about finding love

Although he expressed frustration with aspects of Nigeria’s dating culture, Whitemoney remains optimistic about eventually finding the right woman.

He made it clear that his goal is not simply to get married but to build a stable and lasting relationship with someone who shares similar values and aspirations.

For now, the reality star says he is patiently waiting for the right person while continuing to focus on his career and personal growth.

His remarks have reignited conversations about love, relationships and the realities of modern dating in Nigeria, with many agreeing that finding genuine connections remains one of life’s biggest challenges.
