In a shocking turn of events, operatives of the Imo State Police Command have arrested Oluchi Nzemechi, a 27-year-old woman from Uzoagba in Ikeduru LGA of Imo State, for the murder of her husband, 31-year-old Kelechi Nzemechi.
The arrest followed the tragic incident where Oluchi allegedly stabbed Kelechi to death during a heated argument.
According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, Oluchi confessed to the crime, revealing a disturbing background that includes her involvement in internet fraud, commonly known as ‘yahoo yahoo’.
She admitted that her lover had lured her into this illicit activity, which ultimately led to a deadly confrontation with her husband.
The incident occurred on June 2, when Oluchi and Kelechi engaged in a fierce argument over a share of 250 million Indonesian Rupiah, which they had fraudulently obtained from a victim in Indonesia. Enraged by Kelechi’s refusal to give her a portion of the money, Oluchi grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed him in the upper body, leading to his death.
In a bid to cover up her actions, Oluchi hastily wrote a note, attempting to mislead investigators. The note read, “You think you can eat my money and go free. I am baba for the boys. I am coming for your wife and your child including your family,” and she placed it on Kelechi’s lifeless body before fleeing the scene. She further revealed that she had been living with Kelechi since 2019 and they had a child together.
The Imo State Police Command is making efforts to recover the alleged 250 million Indonesian Rupiah with the intention of returning it to its rightful owner. ASP Okoye assured that the suspect is currently undergoing a thorough investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department and will be arraigned in court.
