A young Nigerian woman has taken her grandmother to court, seeking repayment of N95,000 which she claimed her grandmother borrowed but failed to repay after living with her for five months.
The granddaughter stated that her grandmother borrowed the money in January, promising to return it by June, but has not honored this commitment.
“She borrowed money from me on January 10th and hasn’t paid it back. It’s been five months now. She promised to repay by June, but when I asked her, she said she wouldn’t because she’s been taking care of me and buying clothes for me,” the young woman explained.
In her defense, the grandmother argued that she has been providing for her granddaughter, including free accommodation, food, and clothing.
“She stays in my house, eating my food while I pay the rent. I told her I needed the money for my shop and took N95,000 from her, promising to repay by June.
However, I don’t intend to pay her back. She’s my child, why should I pay her? If I say I won’t pay, she won’t give me the money. I’ll repay her when I’m able, but not now. I’ve taken care of her from primary to secondary school,” the grandmother stated.
