The Gombe State Government is set to commence the data capture of all Tsangaya schools and Almajirai within the state.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to reform the Almajirai education system and to accurately determine the number and origins of these students. Sayyada Aminatu, Special Adviser to Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya on Tsangaya and Almajirai matters, revealed this plan in an interview with Daily Trust.
Aminatu stated that her office will collaborate with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to register all Almajirai in the state, ensuring they receive Identity Cards to facilitate their movement without harassment.
She criticized the neglectful behavior of parents who abandon their children in Tsangaya schools without proper arrangements, leaving them to fend for themselves.
“Everyone knows that the education system has changed, yet these young children are seen roaming the streets and have become a nuisance at bus stops and other gatherings due to a lack of Western education,” Aminatu remarked.
She expressed her concern over the plight of Almajirai, highlighting the disheartening situation of children spending nights in motor parks and markets, struggling to survive amid the high cost of living.
This initiative aims to provide a structured approach to addressing the challenges faced by Almajirai and to improve their educational and living conditions.
