In a significant legislative move, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed a bill to reinstate Nigeria’s old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”
This decision, marking the one-year anniversary of his presidency, has stirred a mix of reactions among Nigerians, particularly on social media.
The bill, having successfully passed through both the Senate and the House of Representatives, will replace the current anthem, “Arise O Compatriots,” once it receives final approval.
The reinstatement of the old anthem is seen by some as a way to honor Nigeria’s historical roots and cultural heritage. However, others view it as a misplaced priority, arguing that there are more pressing issues that need addressing.
