Alfonso Ribeiro, renowned for his role as Carlton Banks on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” recently opened up about his stalled acting career in an interview with Closer Weekly.
Despite the popularity of his iconic role, Ribeiro revealed that it has hindered his ability to land new acting gigs.
“It was one of the greatest roles that I ever was fortunate enough to play, but it was also the role that stopped me from acting again because people couldn’t see me as anything else,” he explained.
On Tuesday, May 28, a user on social media suggested that filmmaker Tyler Perry should help revitalize Ribeiro’s career.
“@tylerperry needs to revamp @alfonso_ribeiro career, I just know he could,” the user wrote.
However, Ribeiro made it clear that he is not interested in Perry’s assistance. He responded decisively, “I don’t need or ever want that man to do anything for me.”
While Ribeiro did not elaborate on the reasons behind his stance, his IMDb page indicates that he has twelve directing credits on Tyler Perry’s former sitcom “Meet the Browns,” suggesting that the two may have worked together in the past.
The nature of their prior interactions remains unclear, but it appears Ribeiro prefers to navigate his career independently.
